Cuban Olympic Shooting Champion to Compete in Guatemala

HAVANA TIMES — Cuban athlete Leuris Pupo, an Olympic champion in the 2012 London games, will compete along with twenty other Cuban sharpshooters in the Central American and Caribbean Championships scheduled to be held in Guatemala from April 14 to 21.

According to JIT Online, the team is seeking to qualify in 17 specialties for the upcoming 2014 Central American and Caribbean Games in Veracruz, Mexico.

Among the Cuban entourage, the sports website also highlighted two other Olympic medalists: rifle expert Eglys de la Cruz (third in Beijing in 2008) and skeet shooter Juan Miguel Rodriguez, (silver medalist in Athens in 2004).

For the first time, Cuba’s athletes will be participating under the new rules of the International Federation of the sport, which will be using a new electronic scoring system.
