Cuba’s Top Union Leader Leaves Post
HAVANA TIMES — The Cuban Communist Party decided on Saturday to replace Salvador Valdes Mesa as the head of Cuba’s only trade union. Valdes had held the post since 2006.
The reason for the dismissal, according to the official Granma daily, was the recent election of Valdes Mesa to hold one of the six vice presidency posts in the Council of State, “which is incompatible with heading the union organization”.
To replace Valdes Mesa on an interim basis until the next congress of the CTC, the Party chose Carmen Rosa Lopez, the deputy secretary of the union and also a member of the Council of State.
The paper said that Valdes Mesa will continue “attending” the CTC, but from his position in the government.
The CTC sees as its main aim supporting the policies approved by the Communist Party and government.

The CTC is the only trade union in Cuba. Unlike the rest of the world, where trade unions see their main aim as supporting the interests of the workers, the Cuban trade union sees their purpose as representing the interests of the bosses. Marxism has been turned on it’s head.
Workers of the world unite, the only thing you have to lose is your right to collective bargaining, the right to strike, the right to a decent wage, the right to free speech, and the right to control your own labour.
