New Cuban Film by Miguel Coyula

HAVANA TIMES — The science fiction film Corazon azul, written and directed by Cuban filmmaker Miguel Coyula, used works by the famous painter Mario Garcia Portela in its filming, its director told Prensa Latina.

Coyula stressed that paintings by PortelaGarcia — large trees in a forest with little light — evoke the darkness of one of the movie’s characters: a genetically altered girl who has the ability to see beyond everything around her, with her goal being to turn Cuban socialism into a model to follow.

This is the third feature film by the independent filmmaker, who is a graduate of the International School of Film and Television of San Antonio de los Baños and director of the controversial film Memorias del desarrollo.
