Cuba and US Organizations Agree to Protect Marine Ecosystems

HAVANA TIMES, April 9 — The Cuban non-governmental organization Hemingway International Nautical Club and the US-based Environmental Defense Fund agreed on Saturday in Havana to implement actions for the preservation of their shared marine ecosystems.

The entities agreed to join efforts in the conservation of marine biodiversity in the waters and coasts of the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean, which will involve sharing scientific information and working toward the restoration of fish populations affected by overfishing.

According to the Prensa Latina news agency, the agreement does not imply any economic or legal commitments by the parties, but constitutes an understanding that each will undertake certain efforts towards the preservation of the planet’s oceans.
