Slight Improvement of Cuban pitcher Norge Luis Vera

HAVANA TIMES, Dec 29 — The health of injured ex-pitcher Norge Luis Vera showed slight improvement on Wednesday, although he remains in very serious condition, according to medical sources in Santiago de Cuba.

The status of the athlete was reported as “calm, conscious and without alarming neurological signs,” which were said to be “positive” in the absence of cardio respiratory alterations.

Norge Luis Vera was involved in a traffic accident this past Thursday night that caused him serious head injuries, a fractured left humerus and a dislocated left hip.

The right hander won an Olympic gold medal in Athens (2004) and two silver medals, in Sydney (2000) and in Beijing (2008), in addition to two victories at the Second World Baseball Classic.
