Cuba Suffers a Loss of Values

HAVANA TIMES — Everyone has values and flaws, like all human beings do after all.  However, when values are well-grounded in somebody, they are never lost.

The result of multiple causes, many values have been lost in our society which infringe upon our unity and progress, especially when money is involved. There are many anecdotes that exemplify this within families, friends or even work colleagues.

Julio Iglesias once said in a famous song that one only has so many true friends, that many will flatter you when you’re doing well, but if you come on hard times…

We see this happen on a daily basis, especially with those who are abroad and send money home to their families, the famous remittances. While you send money, they can only sing your praises, you’re great, and you’re the best…

But, if because of X or Y, you can’t send this money or you begin to send less, then you will fall off your pedestal, it doesn’t matter whether you are a father, a brother or anybody else. You’ll never be considered the same.

If by chance you fall into ruin, most people will distance themselves from you little by little until they push you aside as if you were the plague itself, because according to these people, you’re only worth as much as you have and only those people who have firm and truly human values will stay.

The latter are the ones who really count, those who don’t change or sell their principles for a few coins or for a bit of cheap junk, those who have always stood by you and were the same. The others aren’t even worth mentioning or remembering, not even to be judged. They are only worthy of our deepest sense of pity and our absolute contempt.
