Havana’s Latin American and Caribbean May Theater Festival

Theater expert Vivian Martinez Tabares talks to us about the Latin American and Caribbean Theater Festival (Mayo Teatral) to be held in Havana from May 16 to 25. These rich diversity of plays will be staged in different theaters around the capital, such as the Sala Llaurado, the Bertolt Brecht Cultural Center, Mella Theater, the Guiñol, Nacional and Trianón theaters, as well as the Ciervo Encantado and Casa de las Americas theater halls (all located in Vedado).

Concert Premieres at Havana’s Contemporary Music Festival

For the longest time, “contemporary music” was for me synonymous with unbearable music, or, at least, a kind of music that wasn’t meant for the ears of someone like me, who is not an expert and doesn’t have any in-depth knowledge about music. Compelling British Films at this Year’s Havana Film Festival

This year’s Havana Film Festival includes in its World Cinema section eight dramatic features from Great Britain, three of them directed by Andrea Arnold (Red Road, Fish Tank and Wuthering Heights). The others are III Manors, Sightseeers, West is West, The Angels’ Share and NEDS.

Cuba’s Cinemateca for September 2013

After undergoing reparations in August, Cuba’s Cinemateca has a host of films ready for the month of September. The main theater, the Charles Chaplin, will feature Russian cinema from Sept. 1-7; an Italian comedy retrospective from Sept. 8-15 and 17-21, a one night showing of the Cuban film Siglo las luces on Sept. 16, and Mexican cinema of the 1990s from Sept. 22-30.
