Alicia Alonso Arrives in Italy

HAVANA TIMES — Dance legend Alicia Alonso, the director of the National Ballet of Cuba, arrived in Italy on Wednesday to receive the 2012 Leonide Massine Award, which will be granted to her on September 8 in recognition of her lifelong artistic career.

The artist was met by mayors Giovanni Alemanno and Michele De Lucia, from Rome and Positano respectively, as well as by the ambassador of Cuba in Italy, Milagros Carina Soto, according to the Prensa Latina news agency.

The jury that unanimously conferred the award on Alonzo was one of the most important in Europe, having been made up of respected experts and critics of international dance – individuals such as the United Kingdom’s Clement Crisp and Anna Kisselgoff from the United States.
