HAVANA TIMES – The president of the International Football Federation (FIFA), Sepp Blatter, symbolically held on Wednesday the first movement of land at the capital’s La Polar stadium, which will be the first stadium with artificial turf on the island, reported JIT Online.

Later this month the work will begin to install the turf at the stadium, which dates back to the 1930s, for a total cost of 1.3 million dollars from the FIFA Goal project, which already assists the National Football School at the adjacent Pedro Marrero stadium.

Blatter, who made a two-day working visit to the island, met with the country’s sports authorities and was received by Cuban President Raul Castro, before leaving Wednesday for Panama, where he will speak at the XXVIII CONCACAF Ordinary Congress .
