HAVANA TIMES — Cuban First Vice President Jose Ramon Machado Ventura received the Syrian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants, Fayssal Mekdad, on Tuesday, reported the Prensa Latina news agency.
Mekdad, who traveled to Havana as a special envoy of President Bashar Al-Assad, delivered a message from the Syrian president to his Cuban counterpart, Raul Castro, according to an official news note.
The two officials discussed the current situations in that Arab nation and in the Middle East, while Machado Ventura reiterated the Cuban government’s support for Syria’s right to sovereignty and self-determination without foreign interference.
Syria has been experiencing a crisis for the past 21s and has accused the United States, France, Britain and some countries in the region of encouraging insurgents in order to topple the current government.
