Cuban Communist Youth Leader Removed

HAVANA TIMES — The Communist Party of Cuba has just removed Liudmila Alamo from her office as the first secretary of the Young Communist League (UJC). The reshuffling took place during the recent National Committee plenum of the youth organization.

According to the island’s main television news program, the meeting was chaired by Cuban First Vice President Jose Ramon Machado Ventura. Yuniasky Crespo, who has been a Communist leader in the eastern province of Las Tunas, was promoted into the leadership position.

The reason for the removal is unknown, though the body recognized “the effort and dedication that Alamo maintained as a leader of the organization.” It was also announced that she “will be re-assigned to other responsibilities.”
