French Yacht Wins Hemingway Tournament in Cuba

HAVANA TIMES — The French yacht finished as the champion of the 62nd Ernest Hemingway Marlin Fishing Tournament held west of the Cuban capital, reports the Prensa Latina news agency.

“After the first catch we all felt very excited, and from that point on we thought we could win the tournament for the fourth time, which in my opinion is the best competition of this type in the world. All anglers know that,” said Girard Aprile, the captain of the winning boat.

The competition awarded two laurels to the Marlin X — in the categories “Tag and Release” and “First Catch” — while the Italian boat DC-9-III won the “Best Catch” honor.

In 2005, 2006, and 2009, 63-year-old Aprile and his crew had previously won the competition named after the famous American writer who once lived in Cuba.
