Spain to Push for New EU-Cuba Stance

HAVANA TIMES, Dec. 23 – The government of Spain will try to replace the current so called Common Position, in force since 1996 as the European Union’s framework for relations with Cuba, during the first half of 2010, when it takes over the presidency of the bloc of 27 countries, affirmed Spanish Foreign Minister Miguel Angel Moratinos, reported IPS.
The island asked the EU to eliminate the Common Position, which demands human rights and political reforms as a condition to advance in bilateral ties. Such dictates are considered by Cuba as meddling in its internal affairs.
