Raul Castro in Venezuela for NOAL Summit

HAVANA TIMES  – Raul Castro arrived in Margarita Island, Venezuela on Friday afternoon to attend a summit of the Non-Aligned Movement of nations, reported Cuba’s official press.

The Cuban delegation also includes the foreign minister, Bruno Rodríguez and the island’s ambassador to Venezuela, Rogelio Rolanco (former director of Juventud Rebelde newspaper).

The Non-Aligned Movement lost its north star with the end of the Cold War (during which Fidel Castro was a major player) and continues to try to find a relevant place in today’s world.

Raul Castro noted the importance of the Movement in the struggle against colonization and for the independence, sovereignty and self-determination of peoples. It also promotes a strengthening of South-South relations.

Iranian President Hasan Rohani will also be attending the Summit and as it closes on Sunday he will travel to Cuba for a visit.

    Obviously Raul left his hand-tailored suits and silk ties behind in Cuba. Probably so that they can be taken to the cleaners!
    Wonder if he will go for a walk in downtown Caracas – and if not, why not?
