Cuban MDs Back Home after Fighting Ebola

HAVANA TIMES — More than half of the Cuban doctors and other heath workers who fought against Ebola in West Africa returned to the island on Monday, reported dpa news.

A total of 150 Cuban doctors and medical personnel arrived to Havana from Sierra Leone and Liberia noted the local media.

Back in October, 2014, Cuba sent a total personnel of 256 to Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea, the three countries most affected by the outbreak of Ebola.

Cuban Health Minister Roberto Morales announced a few days ago on the island the pending return of the doctors, at a time when the epidemic is declining in West Africa, according to the latest figures from the World Health Organization (WHO).

The next group of Cuban health personnel is scheduled to return home on April 1 from Sierra Leone.

According to WHO, since the beginning of the Ebola outbreak, the deadliest in history, there have been 24,350 cases reported.
