Cuban Baseball Playoffs Schedule

HAVANA TIMES – The Isla de la Juventud Pirates completed a series sweep over Industriales on Thursday night, with another dramatic 6-5 victory once again decided in the ninth inning, and advanced to the Cuban baseball playoffs for the time first since the 2008-09 season. The win left the reigning champion, Pinar del Río, one game out of the postseason after also sweeping their final three game series over Artemisa.
The Pirates also made history with their victory to take fourth place; for the first time ever in modern day Cuban baseball, the big four, Villa Clara, Santiago de Cuba, Industriales and Pinar del Río were all eliminated.
Postseason 2015 Cuban baseball will begin next Tuesday March 24, when the Isla de la Juventud (49-38) travels to Matanzas (55-32), the season’s league leader.
A day later the second and third place finishers, Granma (53-34) and the 2012 champions, Ciego de Avila (50-37) will square off in Granma in the other semifinal series.
