US Army Nurse Refuses to Force-Feed Guantanamo Prisoners

The United States still maintains 149 prisoners without charges or legal proceedings at its Naval Base in Guantanamo, Cuba.

HAVANA TIMES – An Army nurse has refused to force-feed prisoners on hunger strike at the military prison at the US Naval Base in Guantanamo, Cuba, reports Café Fuerte.

The news was revealed by lawyer Cori Crider, quoting Syrian prisoner Abu Wael Dhiab Syrian, subjected to the forced feeding program, who said that this is the first conscientious objector at the prison camp.

For its part, Navy captain, Tom Gresback, declared that “the service member has been temporarily assigned alternative tasks without affecting operations of medical support at the base.”

An undisclosed number of the 149 prisoners at Camp Delta at the Naval Base, located on occupied Cuban territory, have been on a hunger strike for the last year and a half, to protest their indefinite detention without trial.
